Traveling with the Granddaughter to Washington D. C.

Traveling with our granddaughter over her spring break was so much fun and hopefully we made some memories she won’t soon forget. The ride to Washington D. C. was long, but she was able to sleep through most of it so it wasn’t too painful for her.

We timed out trip just right and all the cherry trees were in full bloom.

I’ve been to Washington several times but never to the Capitol. It was a great experience for us and for our granddaughter. Our Congressman, James Comer, arranged a tour for us and it was fascinating to hear the history about the building and our early government.

A nice lady saw us looking around and volunteered to snap our picture. Bill and I have been married 39 years this year and Abby is our oldest granddaughter. I can’t believe she will be 14 this summer!

We also visited the Lincoln Memorial and even though I have been there before it was fun watching my granddaughter view it for the first time.

I’m above average height but no matter how tall you are, Lincoln makes you feel small.

Every where you turned there were beautiful trees! I loved seeing them in bloom!

We didn’t walk down to the Washington Monument but it sure was beautiful to look at!

We also took our granddaughter into Fredericksburg, which is just the neatest town! It’s fun just to stroll up and down the street and look in the windows of all the shops. We toured the Rising Sun Tavern which belonged to George Washington’s youngest brother, Charles in 1760. George visited and ate there several times.

We thought this was a bathtub but we weren’t sure. We were right. How would you like to take a bath in a tub like this?

The Dome inside of the Capitol building. Isn’t it beautiful?

Have you ever been to Washington D. C. or Fredericksburg? Do you travel with your grandchildren? Tell us about it!

  1. Yes, it is a weird tub! My grandparents had a white wash tub (large pan) that everyone bathed in on Sat. night. Men went first. Ugh!

  2. You’d think they would have come up with a better design than that for a bathtub, wouldn’t you, lol. I’ve always wanted to go there in the spring, but it was still interesting in the dead of winter. Lovely photos, that was very cool of your congressman.

  14. I love D.C.! My dad was in the Army JAG Corp and was sworn in at the Supreme Court when I was a teenager. And, Amanda finished a Lego set of the US Capital on Sunday. Her South African Nana bought it for her birthday. She chose that for Amanda’s American roots. I really hope my kids will get to visit D.C. one day. Thanks for hosting!
