Lost Baby Teeth: Are They Trash or Treasure

What do you do with lost baby teeth? Are they trash or treasure?

My older granddaughter loves my cell phone. She’s only 7 so she’s too young for one of her own, but boy does she love to play with mine. She visited this weekend and when I picked up my phone I discovered she’d made a few pictures of herself.

Perhaps this is her way of reminding me she has a loose tooth. She’s already lost several but it’s still a big event, and of course she looks forward to a visit from the Tooth Fairy.

When our children were little I kept all their little teeth as they lost them. I put them in the top drawer of my jewelry box. We had five children so over the years I accumulated enough teeth in that drawer to make a miniature set of dentures. For a long time I thought it was sweet to have them there but I finally decided it was gross. I mean what was I going to do with them? Make a necklace out of them or something? Yuck! Besides, I had no idea which teeth belonged to which child- so I tossed them.

In a way I’m sorry I did. Now I look in my jewelry drawer and miss them. Am I twisted or what?

There has to be a better plan. I know somewhere on Pinterest some mother has come up with a cute way to memorialize baby teeth but since I trashed mine, I don’t want to look.

What did you do with your children’s baby teeth?  Trash them or treasure them?

  1. We saved only the first lost tooth from our two sons and the rest were trashed. Though, admittedly, I have no recollection of where I put the two teeth for safe keeping today!
