Children’s Book Review
Book Review
Disclaimer: I was compensated for this post but all thoughts and opinions are strictly my own.
I have mentioned before that my mother was a 6th grade reading teacher. She loved her students and encouraging them to read was her gift to them. Even though she has been gone for many years, I still think of her when I do children’s book reviews. Mom would definitely have wanted C. A. Hartnell books in her classroom.
They are so”kid friendly!” Lots of action and excitement in every book. Scary Spring: Our Polio Fright of 1955 is like the hood ornament on Aunt Jean’s Pontiac Chieftain car…it leads the way down dark and onto scary streets! Sort of like my mom’s blue Cadillac did for me (without a hood ornament) in 1973. Eleven-year-old Pete leads his friend, Carol Ann, on exciting adventures during the 1950s. (I was born in 56 and loved the era). These All-American kids befriend a runaway beagle puppy, spy on its owner, “mean, old Mr. Chester,” confront their polio vaccine fears witness a hot rod crash, and deal with the ravaging affects of polio. (Did any of you get polio vaccines? I did and I still have the scar to prove it!)
Ages eight and up will be thrilled and encouraged by this fast-paced, historical-fiction chapter book.
Ferocious Fall is set in October of 1955. Our Wild Weather Escapes, is the third volume in a four book series. In this book two eleven-year-old you can join All-American kids, Pete and Carol Ann, and a beagle puppy, as they scramble from one weather-filled adventure to another. Can they find shelter from a crazy cloudburst, outrun a dust devil, and escape a flash flood? Follow these best friends as they learn to make wise decisions when dealing with “bad news” bullies and wild weather. Readers will be thrilled by this fast-paced, historical-fiction chapter book.
As you can see from this photo there are also coloring and activity books that your children or grandchildren will enjoy. Visit C. A. Harnell’s website and shop for the children in your life today!
