In The Pink and Why Pink Doesn’t Stink

This is week one of wearing pink every day (so I am in the pink) and my selection of blouses is getting slim. I suspect that by the end of the month I will be really looking forward to wearing the rest of the clothes in my closet. I also predict that I will have gained at least five pounds from eating so many cupcakes. (I’m making and selling Cupcakes for a Cure to raise money all month) Someone has to taste test them and make sure they are edible, right?

Now, compare wearing pink for one month to taking chemo and radiation. Obviously one is a whole lot tougher than the other, so I am wearing my pink proudly (and washing it frequently-so that it doesn’t stink) because this is something I can do to promote awareness, and a slight inconvenience doesn’t even register when compared to what breast cancer does to a life.

My mom had colon cancer and the last year of her life was a roller coaster of bitter-sweet memories. One day she was sitting in her bedroom and my children were down the hall playing. She could hear their laughter. “I just want to be a real person again,” she said. The crack in my heart broke a little bit more that day.

The medical field has come a long way when it comes to cancer, but they still have a long way to go. Watching someone you love go through chemo is a helpless feeling and no one I know likes feeling helpless.

Do Something….

Become a part of the NanaHood Friends and Family Team and help the Susan G. Komen Foundation change the future. Don’t do it for me. Do it for my cousin Martha and all the women you know who are engaged in a battle they didn’t want to fight.

If you can bake a cupcake you can help save a life. Bake cupcakes…decorate them pink and sell for a dollar. Then donate the money to the Susan G. Komen foundation through my NanaHood Friends and Family Team.

Martha and I both thank you!
