My Hero
Every time there is a crisis or natural disaster there are heroes who step in and rise to the occasion. What a blessing it is to see firemen rescuing a baby from a flooded house or first responders aiding victims of a plane crash. There’s no doubt about it, these folks are heroes.
But the hero I am writing about today is not a first responder or fireman, she’s my cousin Martha. I write about her frequently on NanaHood so you may know that she’s a 3 time breast cancer survivor. Recently we took a trip to Florida and she and part of her family got to come and visit.
It was so great getting to see her again. Earlier this year I went with her on one of her chemo days and sat with her while she got her treatment. The facility where she received the chemo was super nice and the nurses were great, but sitting in a huge room full of people who are getting chemo is something everyone needs to experience. Not because it makes you stop and thank God for every moment we have here on earth (although it does that too) but because it makes you remember that while we can’t control a lot of what happens to us (like getting cancer) we can choose how we deal with it. And how Martha deals with it is what makes her my hero.
I love you Martha Temple Todd….I love your faith, your courage, your patience, your wisdom, your sweet and loving soul.
This songs for you….sing it Bette!
Wow, this is amazing. Everyone needs a hero at some point in life!
Beautiful tribute, Teresa! And kudos to you for ‘pinking’ your blog for cancer research!
I am so glad I found your website; going to watch for more great posts!
