The Heat
I got an email from my friend asking me if I wanted to go to the movie, “The Heat.” I had never heard of it so the title struck me as odd. What could it mean? As I am reading her email I am struck by what is commonly known as a “hot flash,” the kind where you start getting hot from the inside out and end with a crescendo of sweat. Ah-ha, I think, that’s what this is about! It’s a menopause film!
Then I googled “The Heat.” Nope, not even close.
Heat in this instance means cops. How in the world do people not familiar with American slang ever figure out our language? Seriously?
This is what the dictionary says about Heat…
Noun
The quality of being hot; high temperature: “it is sensitive to both heat and cold”.
Verb
Make or become hot or warm.
Synonyms
noun. warmth – ardour – ardor – fervour – fervor – fire
verb. warm – heat up – warm up – inflame
But what about slang?
Here is part of what I found when I typed in “Slang for heat”
heat
A firearm….example: He’s packing heat.
Okay, so that’s closer to what the movie is about. If you are like me and get invited to the movie do NOT assume it’s about menopause, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Read about the movie here and if you love Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, make plans to go see what The Heat is all about! I’m going soon and can’t wait!
Hi Grandma Bonnie! So nice of you to stop by and visit me at NanaHood. Nice meeting you and do come back! Teresa
I enjoyed meeting you too! Take care and thanks for visiting NanaHood….do come back!
It was such a pleasure meeting you in Chicago! I like your page and subscribed to your blog. I don’t know what Grandma Bonnie is thinking when she says we don’t have to worry about hot flashes in movie theaters with a/c. They have the same effect on me with or without. LOL #VZWVoices #Boomer
I might have to go see that movie. I like comedy and as long as the theater has a/c we won’t have to worry about that dreaded “hot flash”
It was nice to meet you in Chicago at the #VZWVoices #Boomer Kickoff.
