What’s New at Nanas? The New Nintendo 3DS XL

This is a NanaHood review. I’ve been given this product to review but all thoughts and opinions are my own!

Do Nanas play Nintendo? Of course they do! Especially when it’s with the super cool Nintendo 3DS XL.

Nintendo

As you can see by the box I was sent the Galaxy Style. How did they know my favorite color is purple? It comes in other colors as well but it’s what’s inside the box that counts. I couldn’t wait to open it up and see what this puppy could do!

In order to get it going I called in someone to help me. I knew I could figure it out but I wanted to make pictures of the actual process of getting one started. My son was nearby and I knew he would be more than happy to help!

The game they sent with the Nintendo 3DS was Mario Party Star Rush. Boy, did Mario bring back some memories!

Mario and Nintendo

There is a BIG difference in Mario back in the day and Mario now.  It’s unbelievable how cool the 3D effects are! Mario looks like he could jump out of the screen and literally run onto your lap. Seriously, it’s so realistic it takes some getting used to. You can adjust the 3D effect and even not use it if it bothers you. We turned it down to help us (me) adapt to the 3D effect.

When you open up the game (for those of you who are not gamers) this is what it looks like. Technology sure has come a long way since 8 track tapes, hasn’t it?

The set up was easy and only took my son a few minutes to do. He said, “It’s so easy even a Nana can do it.” Within a few minutes we were able to play the games and explore the other neat things the hand held system can do, like making 3D pictures and streaming movies.

If you want to be the coolest mom or nana on the block you definitely need to get the grandkids one of these for Christmas!

One Thing Wrong

In case you are wondering about pricing you can buy one here for 199 bucks, and that’s not bad for all it will do! As far as I could tell there is only one thing wrong with this system.

If you let your son or your grandchildren play with it, you might not get it back.

  1. We have just a DS, not a 3D DS. They play it, but they play on their Kindles more it seems.

Our big gift this year was our new flat screen TV. It’s our first. Yep our TVs were old as heck!
