What Are You Afraid Of?

When I was a little girl I was scared of the dark. I insisted that the hall light be left on because “I couldn’t see” to go to sleep.

I am no longer afraid of the dark, but there are a few things that still frighten me.

So what am I afraid of now?

A few weeks ago I spoke at a ladies day event and after I got back home I became Facebook friends with the preacher’s wife (who I already knew and liked immensely). Tonight she had the above picture on her page with the following caption, “This is my great Aunt Belle and this is the rattlesnake she killed last month on her property in Cumberland County! She is lot braver than I will ever be!!!!”

I don’t want to mess with the snake or with great Aunt Belle….any woman who would get near that snake is not anyone I want to risk making mad!

Is there anything else I am afraid of?

Cancer….all kinds of it. Hurting and maiming the people I love.

Yes, snakes are scary, but cancer is worse.

October is breast cancer awareness month. Every day I am reminding visitors to get a mammogram and asking them to tell the women they love to get one too.  Yes, I am scared of it and yes I hate it. I can either hide in a corner in fear, or I can fight. I choose to fight.

What will you do?
