Thursday Thoughts on November

I’m just not sure how November got here so quickly this year. Did someone take September and October off the calendar? How can it be time to be thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas? And speaking of Christmas, have you noticed some stores have their decorations out? I know it’s childish but I refuse to look at them until after Thanksgiving. So if you see me in a store and I am feeling my way around with my eyes closed it’s because I don’t believe it’s right to put Christmas decorations out until after Thanksgiving.

I know that’s silly and I know why merchants do it, and to some extent it works. I have already purchased a few Christmas gifts. Now I know why I never buy gifts this early. The gifts I have already purchased are gone. I brought them home, hid them in  closets and then decided I couldn’t wait to give them to the person I purchased them for. Oh well, there’s something to be said for doing your shopping at the last minute.

But back to November….Traditionally I think of this month as a time to be grateful and give thanks and I have so much to be thankful for.  For one thing the elections are over and I don’t have to listen to anymore back-stabbing political ads! Every election I get so disgusted I can’t wait for one of them to win so the ads will stop. You’d think by now politicians would know how much most folks hate those ads, but I guess it’s like promoting Christmas in October, obviously it works.

I wonder what would happen if a political candidate did the opposite of what they do now. What if you turned on the television and a candidate said, “On election day I hope you choose me. My opponent is an admirable person too and I wish them the best. I like and respect him/her and hope we can work together in the future to make our community and state a better place to live but today, I’m asking for your vote because I will work hard, be honest and listen to my constituents. ”

Think it will ever happen?  Probably not, but one can dream.

Welcome to November and smile….election day is over.

  1. Thank you for your comment and for sharing my “bah Humbug” attitude about Christmas before Thanksgiving/

  2. Nothing keeps me awake. It can thunder and lightening all night and I don’t hear it unless I am up going to the bathroom…which is a good possibility because I go 4 times a night!

  3. I worked as an election judge this year, and we had a huge storm the night before the election and drizzly rain most of the day. We still had an excellent turnout. I had to laugh at the number of older folks who came in bleary-eared because their dogs kept them awake during the storm. We don’t have kids that keep us up, but our dogs do it! What’s wrong with that picture?

  4. I feel the same way about Christmas. Stores should wait till after Thanksgiving to put out their decorations. By the time Christmas gets here I am burned out on it. Thank you for our blog on that subject.
