The Power of Prayer

Last week a friend of mine, Laura, learned that her son, James, has cancer. James is only thirteen years old. (To protect their privacy I am changing their names) It hasn’t been but just a few weeks ago that I was praying for her other son, Chad, because of serious health problems he has. Now I have added James to my prayer list, as well as the rest of the family.

When one person in a family is seriously ill it stresses the whole family. When two children have problems the level of stress rises as rapidly as the little creek on our farm does when the rains come.

I try to start every morning with prayer and Bible reading. Today I’m asking for your prayers too. It doesn’t matter that you don’t know the real names of the people I am referring to, God does. Please pray for them, for strength and comfort and the health of their sons.

I’ve included some of my favorite quotes about prayer below. If you have one not listed here please feel free to share it with us in the comment box.

And thank you for your prayers!

Teresa

“As a people of faith, we know that prayer is a powerful instrument. And as one Nation under God, we know that many times our most powerful tool is prayer.”
Nick Rahall

“For hundreds of millions of Americans who believe in God, prayer is our bridge between Earth and Heaven, our way of opening our hearts to the Lord. Through this intimate relationship we find peace and guidance.
Nick Rahall

“Prayer is the key to Heaven, but faith unlocks the door.” Anonymous

“Heaven is full of answers to prayer for which no one bothered to ask.”
Billy Graham

The fruit of silence is prayer.
The fruit of prayer is faith.
The fruit of faith is love.
The fruit of love is service.
The fruit of service is peace.
Mother Teresa

“Work as if you were to live a hundred years. Pray as if you were to  die tomorrow.”
Benjamin Franklin

Don’t know if I filled out the: Mail & Website but you know me.

Your e-mails made me feel better about my problems today but I also haven’t been able to get “James” & “Chad” and their family out of my mind. A parent may worry about themselves & spouses but there is no worry or love like that of your children’s health. I pray for them and their parents daily. I am also thankful for you as a friend. Your friend and her children will be in my prayers. There’s nothing more heartbreaking than having a child with a life-threatening illness.
