The Power of a Voice

The power of a voice

I don’t know about you but the last few weeks have upset me to the point I can’t watch the news anymore. I do my best to live a good life, to follow the teachings of the Bible and to be respectful of all people. I don’t understand NOT treating all people the way we would want to be treated. I don’t understand watching someone do something wrong and NOT speaking up. I don’t understand letting anger and frustration get out of hand to the point it harms other people or property. There’s a lot I don’t understand.

But I do understand the importance of a voice. Just because I can’t bear to watch the news doesn’t mean I don’t know what’s going on and while I am only one….

the power of a voice

I want to share two blog posts with you that I read this morning that inspired me to write this. The first is “Whatever Your Volume, Say Something.” She explores why many of us are silent and then urges us to take small steps and shows us examples of how to use our voice. It’s a great post and very thought provoking so I encourage you to read it.

The second post addresses the same topic but from a different angle. The title is “Feeling Down? Lift Every Voice and Sing.” It tells the story of the man who wrote the song, Lift Every Voice and Sing. James Weldon Johnson. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida. His mother was a musician and a teacher.

The post also offers suggestions for what to do when we are feeling depressed (like me when the news comes on.) I hope you will read it too.

And finally, as my way of using my voice I want to share this song and encourage you to pray for our country and the many, many issues we are facing. Just listen to the words of the song….it says what I feel and maybe what you feel, too.
