See the Northern Lights On A Hurtigruten Voyage

*Special thanks to Hurtigruten for sponsoring today’s post and for inspiring me to try and check something off my bucket list*

Do you have a bucket list? I have one in my head, a sort of mental want-to-do-that someday, but I’ve never taken the time to make a written list.  My 40th class reunion is in a few weeks and it’s inspired me to think about all kinds of things, including a bucket list.

One of the things my husband and I want to do is go on a cruise and while I am a warm weather, beach loving gal, after I read about Hurtigruten Norway adventures I added this to my must-do list. Before reading about the adventures you can have on a Hurtifruten Voyage the only thing I knew about Norway was that it was home to the Vikings (thanks to my high school English teacher who drilled us in mythology) and that it was cold there, but now I know that Norway has a lot to offer. For one thing, I’ve always wanted to see the Northern Lights and this would be the perfect way to do that!

The magical corona of Northern Lights.

A cruise to Norway would give us the opportunity to see things and do things that we can’t experience anywhere near where we live (Kentucky); like watching whales. The cruise takes you out to the continental shelf to spot whales as they feed. I’ve only seen whales at Sea World and that was decades ago. I’d love to see them in their natural habitat!

Another thing I think would be cool to do is go to the Tromsø Wilderness Centre on Kvaløya Island. This is a scenic area with views of the ocean and mountains. One of my former students lived in Norway for awhile and she said it was absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. But the really cool part of this excursion would be meeting more than 250 huskies and puppies. We are huge dog lovers (see my board on Pinterest called I Love Dogs) and on this trip you receive an introduction to dog sledge driving. How fun would that be!

Just writing about this and sharing the pictures has made me want to go pack my bags and hop on board. One of the best things about this cruise too is that the prices are more affordable than many other cruises we have read about. And it’s so beautiful there that it looks surreal.
