Remembering The Eagles-My Favorite Band

Remembering the Eagles, My Favorite Band

My favorite band has always been The Eagles. I was a senior in high school in 1974 and I knew the words to every song they sang. When my husband’s secretary asked me if Bill liked the Eagles and would he enjoy two tickets to a concert as a gift for Boss’s Day, my reply was, “Who cares if he likes them or not! I want to go!”

It turns out Pam (aka Super Secretary) liked the Eagles too, so she got four tickets. Last Saturday night all four of us went to the concert.

My boys thought it was funny that mom and dad were going to a concert. They gave us all kinds of advice including what time we should be home (and they waited up for us).

Leaving home for concert. The background looks like the Sahara Desert but it’s our back yard.

The concert was held in Louisville at a brand new stadium. The acoustics were great even though the building is huge!

Concert was held in building directly behind us.

Every song they played brought back so many memories.  I could picture my friends and me in my maroon and white Cutlass with the windows down, singing at the top of our lungs.

The coliseum holds 23 thousand people and except for the seats directly behind the stage, there wasn’t an empty seat in the house. Most of the folks in attendance were about my age but the guy sitting next to me was really young. My curosity got the best of me. “How old are you?” I asked.

“23,” he said.

“You weren’t even born when the Eagles started playing,” I said.

“No, but my dad was and I grew up listening to them. I love their music.”

Which goes to show you that music is a universal language that can connect the generations.

They Eagles played every song I wanted to hear and the concert lasted three and a half hours. Joe Walsh is as great as ever on the guitar. Occasionally while they were playing they would deliberately not sing a line of the song so that the audience could fill in for them.  Hearing 20,000 fans singing Eagles songs was “way cool!”  The last song they performed was Desperado and as the teenagers say, “It was awesome!”

Making memories Monday is usually about making memories with my children or grandchild, but this weekend Bill and I made some memories…and it rocked!
