Poppa, Barbie and the Pink Potty

Tonight when I got home from work my husband and son were cooking dinner for everyone.  Bill was chopping vegetables and Nick was grilling. That was my first shock of the night. Don’t get me wrong, I knew they both could cook, but to be doing it before I got home without my help….well, I was very surprised and very happy.

My granddaughter Abby heard my voice and came running to greet me. She hugged me and said, “Nana, wait till you see what Poppa got me!”

Poppa doesn’t go shopping often with Abby and when I looked at him he grinned sheepishly. “She’s hard to say ‘No” too,” he said.

Abby took my hand and took me to see what she got. What she got was my second surprise of the night.

It seems Barbie has grown up, had a daughter and is potty training her. I was captivated. Maybe because I have never seen a tiny pink toilet but get this….it really flushes! And there’s more.

Unbelievable! Even  Barbie’s toilet needs cleaning at my house!

But no! You flush the potty and look what happens!

I just couldn’t believe it. I don’t know why it fascinated me so much but I just kept flushing it and flushing it. Back when I had Barbies they didn’t have advanced gadgets and gizmos. I had Barbie, Midge and Skipper and a carrying case for their clothes, but that was it. Anyway, after about ten flushes Abby says, “Nana, can I play with it now?”

Oops, toys are for kids aren’t they?

So after we played awhile we had a delicious supper of two different kinds of grilled meat, grilled veggies, salad, corn, bread and Abby’s favorite, macaroni and cheese. After everyone left the table she asked if she could have some more and I said sure. She grabbed the bowl and ate straight from the bowl.

Later we have a new video to watch. It seems Abby talked Poppa into Alvin and the Chipmunks the Squeakquel.

Another exciting night in the NanaHood! Bring some popcorn and come on over!

  1. This changing potty isn’t standard with Barbie toilets but it should be. I regret not being a toy collector because my ideal Barbie dreamhouse would have to have this transformative quailty; hopefully Mattel will reissue this version.

Mattel has a toilet training toddler doll that has this potty in a larger size. It’s one of the few times where the toy designers amusingly keep it real. They should bring back the pregnant Midge doll.
