A New Product to Improve Car Seat Safety and Usability
Disclaimer: I have been compensated to review this product. All thoughts and opinions are strictly my own.
Car seat safety is important to parents and grandparents. Anyone who has watched videos of car crashes knows that if a child isn’t in a car seat and buckled properly, bad things can and do happen.
I want to do everything I can to keep my grandchildren safe when they are with me and I know the importance of car seats but let’s face it, they are not grandparent friendly. They are hard to transfer from one vehicle to another and after you get to your destination, then the button on the car seat is a pain to unfasten.
The reason it’s so hard to push in is because it takes 9 pounds of pressure to release. Car seat safety regulations require that amount of pressure to insure that children can’t unbuckle themselves. That’s good but what happens when Nana or Poppa have arthritis or carpal tunnel and can’t push the button hard enough to make it release?
Car Seat Safety
Have you ever wondered, “What if I did have a car accident and I needed to get my grandchild (or child) out of the car in a hurry and I couldn’t because I can’t push the button in?”
I’m not super strong but I should be able to get the thing to release. Yet, time and time again I’ve had to call for my husband to come get them out. Fortunately, I’m not the only Nana that has that problem.
Meet Barbara Heilman and Her Daughter Becca Davison
Barbara Heilman, an Occupational Therapist, and when her daughter Becca Davison had a baby, Barbara discovered that she had trouble unfastening her grandchild from their car seat. She and her daughter talked about car seat safety and the possibility that other grandparents or parents might have the same problem. Together they invented UnbuckleMe. It is a small plastic tool that makes it easier to unbuckle a standard child’s car seat buckle.
This is me getting ready to practice on my granddaughter. As you can see, it’s small and light weight.
I can’t tell you how much easier it makes getting my grandchildren out of the car, so I decided to show you! They measured, and it actually reduces the force required by more than 50%!
How You Can Get UnbuckleMe
UnbuckleMe is so new it’s in the process of being made. Have you ever heard of Kickstarter? It’s an online company where people with ideas go to get funding to help make their product. You can order your UnbuckleMe today by clicking here . This takes you to the Kickstarter.com page that Barbara and her daughter set up. You can read about them and watch a video about their project too.
Barbara wanted me to be sure and invite you to something special. She and her daughter are hosting a Facebook Live session this coming Monday night, March 13th, at 7 p.m. CST to talk about UnbuckleMe and what Kickstarter actually does. Lot’s of folks aren’t familiar with it and they want to explain to you how it works.
