National Chocolate Day – Triple Decker Brownies

Did you know it’s National Chocolate Day?? I think that means any chocolate consumed today is FREE of calories! (Ok, maybe not, but I’m going to pretend anyway). It’s really a holiday I can get excited about, how about you?

We actually planned to share this recipe today, and the National Chocolate Day holiday sealed the deal!  Martha has been baking a LOT lately, and one of her most recent desserts was a TRIPLE Decker Brownie! It’s really a crazy, yummy mix of our most favorite chocolate desserts – ALL in one brownie concoction. Here’s the recipe:

triple decker brownies for national chocolate dayIngredients:

1 package of pre-made chocolate chip cookie dough
1 package of Oreos
1 brownie mix

You are sold already, right? And they are SO easy to make, I promise.

Directions:

Grease a glass casserole dish or pan (9×9 is what we used).

Spread the cookie dough into a layer on the bottom of the pan. Thick or thin – you decide! If you go with thin, you could have enough cookie dough left over for snacking on making cookies.

Layer the Oreos on top of the cookie dough. Martha took the oreos straight out of the package and placed them on the dough. After we finished these and ate them, we decided NEXT time it might be fun to try crushed oreos instead. So, again – you decide! You definitely won’t need an entire package of Oreos for this, so yay.. more leftovers for snacking!

Put together your brownie batter, according to the mix you are using. Add the batter as a third layer to this chocolate masterpiece!

Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes (or so), and use the toothpick trick to check for done-ness.  We let the brownies sit for several hours to cool, and they cut clean as a whistle.

One more option – these are VERY rich, VERY chocolate-y, VERY good… and a regular size brownie is almost TOO much. So, next time we make them, we are planning to cut them into much smaller pieces, like triple-decker-brownie-bites.

There you have it – the perfect dessert for National Chocolate Day!  Let us know if you try these.
