NanaHood Named Top Site for Grandparents

NanaHood Named one of Top Ten Websites for Grandparents

It’s been a great August. NanaHood.com turned 5 years old. I turned 58 (ugh–but I’m blessed to reach this age!) and one of my granddaughters turned 9. That’s a lot of numbers and birthdays!

Speaking of numbers I just received news of another number I can celebrate! This is what the email said….

“It is my pleasure to advise you that Nanahood.com has been selected as one of GRAND Magazine’s 2014 Top Ten Websites for GRANDparents! Your site is being recognized in the Sept/Oct issue of GRAND (that goes live Sept. 1st) along with nine others.”

Woo hoo! Let’s see, what can I wear when I walk the red carpet? I want to look my best when Robin Roberts interviews me.

A quick look in my closet reveals I have two choices; my Easter dress from 4 years ago or the dress I took to consignment and then went back and got 2 years later to wear to something I had to attend with my husband. (True story)

I’m thinking I need to buy something new.

And of course I have to write my acceptance speech. A girl needs to be prepared. I don’t want to have to look at cue cards when I get on stage. For one thing I wouldn’t be able to see them unless they were held two inches in front of my nose.

So, I’m thinking my acceptance speech will go something like this….

I wasn’t expecting this. I really wasn’t, but I’m so very happy to accept this award on behalf of NanaHood and the 70 million grandparents in the United States. I would like to thank my friend, Char, who has been with me since the beginning. She’s my go-to-gal techy and friend and I love her dearly. I would like to thank Joshua Steimle and MWI for NanaHood’s latest redesign. They have been awesome to work with. Finally, I would like to dedicate this award to my mother and grandmother, who were both what I consider to be perfect grandmothers. And to my grandchildren, who make being a nana so much fun and who supply a large part of my writing material. And my husband, for his support. Today is our 34th anniversary and he’s the rock of our family. I love you, Bill.”

Not the Emmys or the Oscars

Okay, so it was just a dream. A very nice dream and I’m not taking the new dress back.

There’s not a red carpet for this award show. There isn’t even an awards ceremony. This isn’t the Emmys or Oscars. This is an award for people who celebrate being a grandparent by writing about it on the Internet.

That may not be a big deal to some folks but it’s a very big deal to those of us who do it. Congratulations to the other nine winners (I will post a link to their websites here after the article on GRAND goes live).

By the way, if you haven’t checked out GRANDmagazine com already, please do so. It’s a great magazine published by some nice folks who sincerely love grandparents and grandchildren.

And so do I.

Thanks, GRAND, for recognizing NanaHood.com as one of Ten Top Sites for Grandparents. I appreciate it so much and think it’s a great way to celebrate September and Grandparent’s Day!
