Nana On a Jet Ski

When you hear the word “Nana” “Mema” or “Grandmother” what picture comes to mind? If you see a little white headed lady in a rocking chair you may need to think again.

Nanas are like ice cream cones, they come in all different shapes, sizes, and colors. Some are very involved with their grandchildren and others are not. Some live near and some live far away.

One nana I know, my cousin Martha, is traveling this week to visit her children and grandchildren. Her journey will take her from Florida to North Carolina and back to Searcy, Arkansas. That’s a lot of driving!

Martha is more active than lots of women I know half her age. She wants to be involved in her grandchildren’s lives (all four of them) and she doesn’t let a full time job or distance slow her down. From time to time her picture pops up here on NanaHood because she and I are more like sisters than cousins and she’s great about making pictures and sharing things she does with her grandchildren.

Do you have photos of your mom doing things with your children you would like to share with us? Or if you are a nana, do you have pics of you and your grandchildren doing something together? If so, we’d love to see them. Send them in!

NanaHood is the second half of the motherhood journey and so far it’s just as much fun!

  1. Hi,Loved the picture of you on the jet-ski..I agree I’m nothing like my “grandma” when I think of mine..my friend posted a picture of me on my fb page while I was having a blast on a jet ski, while us “Grandparents” hung out! Grandparenting is the best but in my case, it’s also given me the opportunity to become a gram-entrepreneur! I’m re-inventing myself with a new business that I was inspired to start when I had the opportunity & joy of being able to spend more time with my new granddaughter, Gianna, after losing my job. It led to my creating Zatswho™ soft photo face recognition flash cards in travel tote as a learning tool to give her a sensory photo journey to teach her about who’s in our family circle & more. Spending time with my granddaughter gives me unending joy and on a personal level, is giving me new life opportunities at mid-life as I meet people I wouldn’t have, additionally making me feel great as I receive feedback that my simple product appeals and offers benefits to a wider spectrum of users than what I originally imagined, especially for families who have special needs, autistic children and stroke/Alzheimer’s patients alike…If I hadn’t become an involved grandparent this wouldn’t have happened…being a grandparent is the BEST!!!!!

  2. Love the photo of you on a jet ski. I’ve not been on one yet. But I’ve been on a motorcycle at least twice, for short trips. Not sure if I’m entralled with that. Jet ski, I’d give it a try.

A few weeks ago I was watching my granddaughter while her mommy was resting and her daddy and grandpa were playing a game. We were on the couch together and I was trying to get her to sleep, to no avail, though. Anyway, I was holding her with a blanket around her and we’d been talking a bit and then she said “I’m stuck!” I said “You’re stuck with grandma, hahaha!!” and gave her a squeeze and didn’t let her go. She just laughed and then it repeated a few minutes later. Fun! She was almost asleep but she fights it, for one thing, and for another it’s possibly the med for her congenital hypothyroidism that causes her to do that….wierd. Or a little kid who doesn’t want to sleep. She’s 2 and has had sleep issues. But they are managing. Love being grandma. Am knitting her a sweater. Gotta keep at it or it won’t get done! :0) Have a good weekend!
