Influential Women

I talk about my mother and my grandmother often. They were and still continue to be two of the most influential women in my life even though they are no longer here.

My mom died July 26th, 1990. In some ways it seems like a long time ago. In other ways, it seems like yesterday. On the 26th I posted on Facebook about the anniversary of her death. Even though it’s been 21 years friends and neighbors still remember her. Her scope of influence never ceases to amaze me. She was a sixth grade reading teacher and she touched so many lives.

I decided I would share some of the comments about her with you. Why? As a reminder to moms and nanas of the power of a life well lived. The next time you are feeling discouraged or down, or wondering if what you do makes a difference, read this post and remember that my mom has been gone 21 years and her influence STILL lives on in those who loved her.

Blessings to each of you on your life journey. May you feel like a VIP today because you truly are!

Comments about my mom…Shirley DeMumbrum Bell who died from colon cancer at the age of 51.

Nancy wrote: “Shirley was one of my favorite teachers in grade school and after that she was someone I admired very much!”

Candy wrote: “Shirley was such a special lady. She would be really proud of you and your family “

Tootsie wrote: “Shirley was always so kind to me dropping in around lunch/dinner time. She always made us all feel so welcome. So young and I know she would have enjoyed her grandchildren so much.”

Lori wrote: “She was an awesome teacher and I feel fortunate I was able to have her for class.”

Sherry wrote: “She was one of my favorite teachers….always made each child feel like they were special.”

Lisa wrote: “I loved her! She gave me many hundreds hours of pleasure….she taught me the love of reading!”

There were more but I think you get the gist. Moms and Nanas (whether they be relatives or adopted) are special people. If you have an influential woman in your life I hope you let them know daily how much you love them!
