I Hear Voices

Occasionally a song comes along that puts a lump in my throat.  This song is one of them.

I hear my mom saying, “Dream big. You can be anything you want to be if you put your heart into it.”

I hear my dad saying, “You are cute as a speckled pup,” and “Stand up straight and be proud that you are tall.”

I hear my Grandma Layne saying, “Pretty is as pretty does,” and “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”

Yes, I hear voices all the time.

Whose voices do you hear?

  1. This was posted on the AWANA blog ApPARENTly today:

My father used to play with my brother and me in the yard. Mother would come out and say, “You’re tearing up the grass.” “We’re not raising grass,” Dad would reply. “We’re raising boys.”

It seemed appropriate given your post above.

  2. I hear my daddy asking young men in love “Have you figured out the pecking order yet?”
Then a few months later when he asked the newly married young man “Have you figured out the pecking order yet?” he would get a cute grin and a “yes sir!” My daddy knew that he was the head of the house, but that if mama ain’t happy, nobody’s happy?

In hear my mother say when I was crying or sad at night “get a good night’s rest… It will look bettering the morning!” (and she was always right!)
