How To Stay Healthy and Young

Would you like to know the secret to slowing down the aging process?  You don’t have to buy expensive anti-wrinkle creams or have plastic surgery! The secret?

The headline in the newspaper said, “Blueberries are nutrient-rich and offer a host of health benefits, one of which may be slowing down the aging process.”

And you know those mice tests they do in laboratories? Well, they did one with blueberries too. Researchers at the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center fed blueberry extractions to lab mice. The extractions were the equivalent of a human eating one cup of blueberries per day. The mice were then run through a series of motor tests. The mice who were given the blueberry extractions performed better than the control group on motor functions and memory.

There are other benefits of blueberries as well. They fight urinary tract infections, cancer and cardiac problems.

So, where can you get some delicious home grown blueberries to help you stay healthy and young?

Welcome to the New Blueberry Capitol of Kentucky…Metcalfe County!

That’s right, this tiny county is fast becoming the number one place to purchase blueberries in Kentucky and soon there will be even more berries because we planted over six thousand bushes on our farm!

Right now our bushes are too small to produce but before you know it, we will be up to our eyeballs in blueberries and when we do, you are invited to come visit and help pick!

  1. I saw the photo at the top of your post and thought you had your first pickin’s. I’m planning a road trip to KY when your blueberries ARE ready. My boys are great pickers: they actually pick more than they eat! I’ll loan them to you for the season. I think life on the farm might just be the thing to tire them out! 😀

  2. We have a farm close to our house where we can pick blueberries. I wish I had time to pick them more often. I usually get them at the supermarket. I am glad I read some of your other posts I really enjoyed visiting heartlight.

  4. Metcalfe is all ready the Blueberry Capitol of Kentucky! There are more blueberries grown here than any other county! Last year it was discussed to have the Metcalfe County Booth at the KY State Fair l proclaim that title this year! Of course last year at the fair, we have to proclaim our Sesquicentennial! I can’t wait until the berries get ready for picking. I buy at least 20 gallons every year and eat them every day. My granddaughters love them too. Yummy! I wish more people here would grow the berries. The one problem the growers have is too little product for so many customers!! Good problem to have, I suppose.
