Put Your Grandparent Memories On Video

I loved my grandmother dearly and I have so many precious memories of her. I decided it would interesting to know if other women my age had special memories of their grandparents. I asked this question on my Facebook page and boy did I get some interesting answers. My personal favorite is the Hansel and Gretel story. You can find out what I’m talking about by watching this video.

If you haven’t recorded your special grandparent memories for future generations, I encourage you to do so. I know it’s hard having a camera pointed at you but if you have someone ask you questions and get you started then it’s easier. Just pretend you are the only person in the room and talk to the wall. You will soon forget you are being recorded

Or Write It Down

If you don’t feel comfortable doing a video, write your stories down. The spelling doesn’t matter and neither does the grammar. Just tell your story the way you would if you were talking. Someday these are the gifts that your children and grandchildren will treasure.

I have amazing memories of my grandparents! We lived in a very small (about 500 people) Midwestern community. I had the awesome luck to have both sets of grandparents until I was a junior in high school. That year my paternal grandfather passed away. However, the other three attended our wedding and were even around when our first two sons were born. I have great memories from the time I was very young, traveling with them, staying at their homes, playing games and cards with them, to the older years and still playing cards and visiting. I treasure that time! I understand how fortunate I am to have these memories!?

My grandmother told me one day that I needed to toughen up. I have never forgot her words. She was encouraging me not to cry every time my Dad corrected me about something. I thought she was being hard on me at the time. Over time I realized that life if full of mistakes and corrections. If I cried over all of them I would have had a miserable life never feeling secure in myself.
