Goodbye Miss Beasley

An Empty Spot On The Pew

For the past 15 years or so I have sat behind Miss Beasley every Sunday at church. Her white hair has been the focal point of our side of the church. To me her hair looked like soft, white cotton candy. I don’t know how she felt about it, but I thought it was beautiful.

Miss Beasely was known as the candy and gum lady at church. She brought a baggie full of goodies every Sunday and passed it out to the children who sat around her (little ones and very big ones). They loved her for it and I know they will miss her too.

For many years she brought granddaughters to church with her and then later, a grandson. She was so proud of them and loved having them at her side.

Today we said goodbye to our dear friend and sister. The service was lovely, just like she was.

Miss Virginia, we will miss you but we take comfort in knowing that there are no tears in heaven and all your sorrows are gone.

Every time a loved one leaves our church family to go to their heavenly home our hearts ache when we see their empty spot on the pew. We rejoice for them that their earthly battles are over but oh how that empty spot reminds us of how much we miss them. I can look around the auditorium and still see where Larry, Lougene, Mary Jane, Adre, Patsy, Roland and many others sat. In my minds eye I can still visualize them there.

Now there is another empty spot on the pew…a reminder of a virtuous woman with beautiful white hair and a bag of candy in her purse. Another much loved church member gone on to their heavenly reward.

Ms. Virginia was such a sweet lady. I’m sure she will greatly missed. I can’t help but think she and Grandma Layne are having a nice visit. Prayers for her family.

Sorry to hear of your loss of Miss Beasley. We’ve lost a few of our church “members” this year as well. It’s great to know they are no longer suffering, as one man died of cancer. Great to have the promise of heaven as well. Take care and have a good week!
