Giving thanks for health care employees

Yesterday my aunt was decorating her Christmas tree and she was using a small step ladder to take the angel off the top of the tree (it was flashing and she doesn’t like flashing angels). She missed a step and fell. Luckily my uncle had just gotten home and when they realized she couldn’t move one of her legs they called for an ambulance.

We live in a very small town and news travels fast here. I got a text message from one of my twins (who was at school) wanting to know why the ambulance was at our aunt’s house. One of his friends had passed by and seen it. So before they even arrived at the hospital, I knew something was wrong.

Today I’m giving thanks for

1. Ambulance drivers and EMT’s who took the less bumpy road so that they didn’t jar my aunt and cause her more pain.

2. Emergency room staff who treated her with kindness and attentiveness.

3. The surgeon who assured her that she would be home in time for Christmas, but to ask someone else to finish decorating the tree.

4. Therapists who will assist in her recovery after the surgery.

Health care is more than just a job, it’s a calling. Thanks to those of you who do it well! We appreciate you!
