She was also my mom and my best friend.

Today’s post is dedicated to teachers and to her.

My Mom

She was only sixteen years old when she eloped.

I was born a year later.

She was a teacher at the local elementary school for 17 years.

Her favorite color was blue.

She loved to read and travel.

She was only 50 when she was diagnosed with colon cancer.

Her faith never waivered.

She died in July of 1990 at the age of 51 and I miss her still.

Every Mother’s Day there’s an ache in my heart.

This week is Teacher Appreciation week and this weekend is Mother’s Day.

Hug your mom and thank a teacher.

And if your mom happens to be a teacher, well then you have two reasons to appreciate her this week!

If you visit NanaHood frequently you know that I’m a nana again. You might also know that my twin boys (who are very tall and accustomed to big things, as in size 16 tennis shoes) are very uncomfortable around tiny things, like their new niece.

Even though Kennedy is now one month old, they haven’t held her…until tonight.

Don’t you just love the way she’s looking at Uncle Russell. I think she’s thinking, “So why have you been ignoring me for the last month?”

Look how her little head fits inside his hand.
